2012 vs. 2013

Most Popular Styles From Spring 2012 vs. The Biggest Trends for Spring 2013

2012

In the Spring/Summer of 2012, some of the trends in fashion were very similar to those of the 2013 Spring/Summer; however, some were very different from what is popular this season.

models wearing neon colors spring 2012 Colors:

In 2012, neon colors such as yellows and oranges were “the colors” to be seen wearing.  These bright colors were everywhere in the spring and summer of 2012; whether it was a dress, a top, pants, or accessories, everyone was wearing them, especially bright yellows and oranges.    Metallic colors were also extremely popular during this season.

With the excruciatingly hot temperatures and bright rays of sunshine that summer of 2012 brought, came a fashion trend of hats.  Not only on the fashion forward members of society, hats made the cut in almost every type of person’s wardrobe last summer!

Sheer:

Sheer tops were the big thing in the Spring and Summer of 2012.  A newer trend, many people came to love the look of a lightweight, stylish top that could be worn with a tank top of some sort underneath it to work, or with simply a bandeau type top under it for a night out on the town.  They are most definitely still in style today and they are extremely popular, they are just simply not a “new” trend of the 2013 season.

Prints:

In 2012, prints were a rising trend on the fashion front.  However, simply one article of printed clothing was not enough.  The trend in 2012 with prints was pairing multiple different pieces with different prints and combining them to make one outfit.

Wearing your gym clothes anywhere other than the gym used to be frowned upon, and many people swore up and down that they would never be caught out in their work-out attire.  However, in the spring of 2012 one of the largest fashion trends was the “athletic chic” look that many of us (I know I did!) came to love!

This spring and summer the color palette is all about the pastels, and especially mint! These pastels are
everywhere this season! Be it pants, tops, dresses, or accessories – such as

jewelry – no matter where you shop, you are pretty much guaranteed to find something you like in one of these light, springy colors!

Statement Jewelry:

Serena from Gossip Girl Rocking Statement Necklaces!

Another rising trend in fashion this spring is adding a piece of large, statement jewelry to your outfit.  Primarily necklaces, these pieces can really add so much to your outfit.  By making them the focal point of your ensemble, they can really pull the whole look together and make you look extremely fashionable and can complete your outfit!

One of the most popular trends in fashion for the Spring/Summer 2013 season is floral printed pieces of clothing. Of the floral pieces, one of the most popular this season is floral pants.  Also popular, are sheer printed floral tops.

A Snapshot Of My Semester And Overall Experience In MKTG 470

An Overview Of My Semester In Internet Marketing

With the semester coming to an end, I am reflecting on a few of the various things I have learned throughout the past few months…

Google Analytics Dashboard

Traffic Analysis

I used Google Analytics to track the visitors and traffic patterns of my blog.  In doing this, I found that about 60% of the people who view my site are new visitors, making about 40% of viewer returning visitors.  Of these visitors, the average time a visitor spent on my website is about 5 minutes, in which time the average person visited about 2-3 pages.  The visitors of my site viewed the page titled “My Passion” most often, followed closely by my first ever blog post about MKTG 470.

Optimization efforts I made through paid search drove more traffic to my site than efforts made through SEO, however not with a significant lead.  Overall, I am satisfied with the results that I have achieved throughout the semester, however I realize that I have a lot of room to improve and I am excited to see where it takes me!

Google Webmaster Tools

Using Google Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools provides a list of search queries that have triggered your site being featured in the SERP.  This was helpful because it showed what people were searching for that resulted in them landing on my site, indicating what people may want to read more about and what I can provide later on.  It also showed the links that point to my site and the sources they come from, which is helpful for link building and SEO efforts.  I think online marketers should use this tool due to the amount of information it provides.

Overall MKTG 470 Experience

My overall experience in  MKTG 470 was awesome, and I’m glad that I decided to take it!  I learned so much and I think it was one of the most beneficial classes I have taken at JMU.  Aside from the class information, I learned that I want to pursue a career in Internet/social media marketing.

Social Media and the Fashion Industry

My Future in Internet Marketing

Overall, I enjoyed my experience in MKTG 470.  I really enjoy blogging and it is most definitely something that I would love to pursue as a career! This new revelation I made about my future, allowed me to begin avidly looking for an internship in social media marketing for the summer of 2013! Hopefully, I will have good news to report on the job front soon, and I will have the chance to take you with me through my experience as a fashion intern!

Oops! Don’t Forget To Accessorize

The Finishing Touch on the Perfect Outfit… Don’t Ever Leave The House Without Accessories!

As you’re showering, doing your hair, and putting on your make-up each morning when you’re getting dressed, most women are watching TV, listening to music (and if you’re anything like me, singing along embarrassingly!), all the while, thinking about what you want to wear and planning your outfit in your head.  However, what many people are not thinking about is how they can pull their whole outfit together by accessorizing.  There are so many little things you can add to your outfit to really complete the look and make yourself even more put together.  A few of these things include:  unique shoes, jewelry, and scarves.

Shoes

If you’re anything like me, you probably find any reason you possibly can to get a new pair of shoes.  I am definitely what you could call addicted to shoes! For example, I went to 72676_603130419700955_858341648_n Midwinter Formal at VMI in February, and after I got my dress, I found a pair of shoes that were absolutely perfect! But then my mom did not fail to remind me that I already had a pair that I was wearing and these shoes that I “had to have” we’re not necessary.  So being the shoe lover I am, naturally I saved a picture of them to my desktop and emailed her randomly with the picture of the shoes and a statement about how good they would look on my feet with my perfect dress that I had found (at a steal of a price, might I add!).  To make a long story short, I ended up adding those amazing shoes to my still-growing collection.

The point of my story is that we all have a TON of shoes, however most of us forget about the super cute ones that we get for special occasions (like my Steve Madden Realove Heels
Midwinter heels that I have worn only once…).  Something as simple as pulling out those awesome shoes you had to have for a certain event (or that you just couldn’t pass up on your last shopping trip) to your everyday outfits, it can really add to the look and pull the whole outfit together.

Jewelry

Now for my personal favorite part of accessorizing, the jewelry! Adding costume or high fashion jewelry to any outfit can be Lia Sophia Bracelets the cherry on top of a perfect ensemble.  Jewelry has the power to pull an entire outfit together and make any outfit look complete.  No matter what your style may be, there is something for everyone in the way of jewelry.

If you’re a more subtle person who isn’t usually a huge jewelry wearer yet, you can stick to the more traditional and classic silver, gold, and hematite pieces.  You can wear smaller pieces if you’re apprehensive of the new addition(s) to your wardrobe, or if you’re feeling adventerous, go with bigger, more bold pieces that really stick out without being colorful statement necklace from J.Crew too flashy.

Now for those jewelry connoisseurs who think they have it all, try adding a few pieces
into your collection that have a pop of color or colors if you’re feeling bold.  If you aren’t too sure about adding all this color, you can go with smaller pieces with more subtle colors; but if you’re not, add bigger statement necklaces, flashy earrings, or a big ring.

Scarves

Personally, I am always cold (my roommate swears something is wrong with me), so as spring/summer outfit with lightweight scarf you can imagine winter and the colder months of the year are definitely not my favorite!  However, one way I deal with the cold weather of the winter months is by adding a scarf to my outfit; this cute accessory, but also a fashionable and stylish addition to any outfit.

So, you’re probably thinking “okay, scarves are cute and great for the winter, but its spring now and finally starting to get warm…” Well, if you were thinking that, you’re right! Wearing heavier scarves are perfect for the winter; but there are also light-weight scarves that come in cute patterns and bright colors that are an excellent fun colorful scarves for spring time touch to any spring outfit! They are not necessarily intended to provide you with warmth, rather they are simply there to act solely as an accessory, much like a necklace!  However, they are also great for the early mornings when it is still chilly from the night before, or that late night when you’re out with friends or heading home late from work (or in my case, the library!) .

So, now that you know how important it is to accessorize and just how much it can add to your outfit, you are ready to hit the stores and go crazy! Stock up on all of your favorite accessories now, so that when you need them to complete the perfect look, you have them and you won’t wish you had just bought that one pair of shoes that you loved at Nordstrom last week (I know I always indulge in such situations…)! Get out there and have some fun! I mean after all, shopping for new clothes and accessories at the beginning of each season is one of my favorite parts of the season changing!
