Some Words Of Wisdom This Motivational Monday…

Good morning and happy Monday gorgeous! I hope you all had an amazing weekend and you enjoyed the beyond scorching weather! I had to work for part of the weekend and I thought my skin might be melting off at some points… But, the good news is that this week is supposed to cool down a little and be beautiful outside! Finally. But, getting back to business… Today we have an amazing quote of the day to bring you a little motivation and inspiration on this Monday morning. I also added a little personal story for ya on what this quote means to me. I got a little sappy and emotional this morning guys, so beware! So, I’m really sorry in advance…

QOTD - Motivational Monday (7.28.2014)

One thing that I have been struggling with lately is worrying too much about what I am not doing and what I could be doing, rather than just enjoying what I am currently doing.  I may not have my dream job at this point in time and I may not be exactly where I envisioned, but this is still my life.  Right after graduation I went through a period of time when I was very sad and upset about the fact that I was going to be a lifeguard with a college degree… I didn’t have a “real” job (or what I thought I should have) and I didn’t have a boyfriend like a lot of my friends and my big sister did and it really got to me.

I was actively looking and applying for every job I could possibly find, but still I had “nothing”.  However, after the pool finally opened and I started working more often and having the ability to do fun things with my best friends from high school, being able to go to the gym in the middle of the day when it was empty, and probably the best part of all, getting to lay at the pool all day and get paid for it, I realized that I needed to appreciate the things that I did have more than the things I felt I should have.  I am so lucky to be able to have a part time job and live at home with my parents while I look for a job. I know there are a lot of people out there who do not have that option available to them, and for that I am so grateful to my parents.  I also realized that this is probably the last time for the rest of my life (until I retire, of course…) that I will be able to not have a full-time job and to do all of the fun things I have been able to do.  So, basically what I have taken away from this, is that (for now) I need to live in the moment and enjoy this time that I have. I need to appreciate the fact that I can go out on a Monday or Tuesday night if I want to and I need to take advantage of it. And I need to do everything I can to help out and spend as much time with my family and friends as I can, because I won’t have as much spare time when I have a “real” job.

The most surprising part of this “funk” I went through was the fact that I was dwelling on not having a boyfriend in my life.  That is something that I have never worried about or used to define me.  I am a firm believer that if you spend all your time waiting around and looking for the right person, you will not find them.  I have also always been extremely comfortable and okay with doing my own thing.  I don’t need a boyfriend and for a long time I didn’t really want one.  However, I think the fact that I was graduating and coming home where my best friend had a serious boyfriend of a few years, and my sister (who had previously been single, and been the one who always went out with me and did everything with me) now had a serious boyfriend, got me thinking that maybe something was wrong with me.  Everyone around me was in a relationship and that just made me feel like I needed to be also. However, my best friend had been in a relationship for the past four years, so this was nothing new. We still do a lot of things together and sometimes her boyfriend would come with us. I was (and am) extremely happy for my sister, but the fact that we wouldn’t be spending as much time together or be doing things like we used to really upset me and made me feel like I was losing her.  I still have a sister, it is just different now.  As you grow up things change, and I realized that this was just the beginning of so many of the changes that were to come.

So, basically, what I am trying to convey to you lovelies, is that just because you may not be exactly where you feel you should be or where everyone else is, doesn’t mean that you’re a failure.  You are not any better or worse off than anyone else, you are simply in a different place than others.  Don’t worry about what tomorrow will bring or what the future holds, just focus on today and make it the best day it can possibly be.  Don’t ever let being in a relationship define your self worth or make you feel like you aren’t good enough.  Everything will happen when it is meant to happen, and until then just enjoy your life the way it is and make the most of everyday!

Fix Me Up Friday: Four Game-Changing Ways To Incorporate Lemons Into Your Skincare Regimen

Fix Me Up Friday - Skincare Uses For Lemons

Recently, while browsing through Pinterest mindlessly as I do all to often, I came across a ton of different uses for lemon… For the face! I never realized how many ways lemons and lemon juice could be used, and I definitely didn’t realize how many different amazing things you could use them for in your daily skincare regimen! But, much to my surprise they happen to be one of the most amazing fruits for your skin, and the best part is, they’re probably a lot less expensive than the products you’re currently using! So, here is some of what I found during my Pinterest binge…

Fix ME Up Friday - Skincare Uses For Lemons

Blackhead Treatment

Who knew?! If you take a half of a lemon and put three or four drops of honey on top, then all you have to do is rub the lemon/honey mixture on your face (emphasizing your biggest problem areas), let it sit for five minutes, and rinse with cold water.  It is said to work immediately… This is something I am definitely going to have to try for myself. Blackheads are something that I always seem to be battling, and being one of my biggest pet peeves and annoyances as far as skincare, if this works like Pinterest claims it does, it will be a serious game changer!

Facial Hair Removal

Combine one tablespoon of honey, one-half of a tablespoon of ground oatmeal, and a few drops of lemon juice and what do you get?! A natural face mask that works to get rid of facial hair! All you have to do is follow these simple steps, and it is said to work like a charm!

  • Combine ingredients (listed above)
  • Apply the mixture to your entire face just like you would use a face mask.
  • Let the mask sit for about 15 minutes, and then rinse your face with water.

It sounds super easy and all you have to do is repeat this remedy two to three times a week for three to four weeks, and allegedly it will help eliminate facial hair! How amazing would that be?! I am not sure if your facial hair will come back or not after the treatment is complete, however this is definitely something I would be willing to try (especially if it is gone for  good!).

Brightening Toner

By combining lemon juice, water, and witch hazel (which you can buy at pretty much any local drugstore) in a plastic bottle, you come out with an amazing toner that will brighten your skin and even reduce the size of your pores! Does that sound amazing or what?! Do you struggle with oily skin and fear that this may not get the job done for your tricky skin? No need to worry, just add two tablespoons of alcohol and you should be good to go!

Like I said before, I found this remedy on Pinterest (full recipe can be found here!), but it was originally posted on Shwin & Shwin (this was the first time I ever read their blog, but let me tell you… It is amazing! They have so many different natural, DIY skincare remedies and so much more… you should definitely check them out if you have not yet done so, I highly recommend it!). If you are interested in learning more about this DIY product or want the full recipe to make your own, you can get all the deets on their blog here. This is definitely something I am going to be making this weekend… They raved about how well it worked and I figure it’s worth a try.

Anti-Aging

By mixing Lemon Juice, Green Tea, and Turmeric Powder together your end result will be an amazing face-mask that is the answer to all of your anti-aging troubles (get the full recipe here!). The lemon works to boost collagen production and boosts the elasticity of the skin and cleanse deep into pores (among so many other amazing things!), the antioxidants in the green tea fills your skin with so many vitamins and minerals which help fight fine lines and wrinkles, treat acne, is a UV protectant, and is even said to help fight skin cancer! And last but not least, the turmeric powder helps fight irritation and inflammation, it also has medicinal properties that help fight acne and eczema, and finally it helps fight and reverse skin spots, acne scars, and freckles. Does that sound amazing or what!? Well, the website that I found this recipe on is equally amazing… They have all the uses and properties of all three items listed in depth (check it out!) as well as the full recipe for the mask and so much more throughout their site… I highly recommend checking it out for yourself, you won’t be sorry you did!

There you have it ladies and gents… Lemon is an amazing fruit and provides so many great benefits for the skin! Who knew? Well, maybe a lot of you did, but due to a little ignorance on my part, this was all new to me and I was taken by surprise! But let me tell you, it was quite an amazing surprise to learn how much something as simple as lemon can do for my face. I am definitely going to be trying all of these ASAP, so I will let you know how my experiments go!

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and if you don’t have big plans tonight (or at any point this weekend or in the near future), try out one of these recipes and let me know how it goes! I would love to hear from you beauties. Or, if you have already tried one of these (and loved or hated it), let me know that also. I love hearing from y’all so please, don’t be shy!
