Good News Ladies, The Search For Waterproof Makeup Ends With tarte cosmetics!

Good morning and happy Monday beauties!  Hope y’all had an amazing weekend and your week is off to a great start!  This weekend was my sister’s bridal shower! It was a lot of fun and,   after days (or maybe weeks…) of stressing, everything really came together and turned out exactly as I was hoping! (More to come from her shower later… I am going to share all the details and lots of photos in a post all about it soon! Promise!)

But, getting back on track… I sincerely hope, with summertime in full swing and the temperatures on the continuous climb reaching ungodly temperatures, you’re somehow staying somewhat cool and still enjoying the warm and sunny weather!

Pictured (left to right): Dan, me, Danielle, Peter

All of us (Left to Right: Dan, Me, Danielle, & Peter) at the end of the game!

I’m not sure if you guys know this about me or not, but baseball is hands down my favorite sport and, in my opinion, one of the best parts about the summer!  A few weeks ago, my sister, her fiancé, Peter, my boyfriend, Dan, and I went to the Nationals game vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates (the Nats historic first no-hitter, if any of you were wondering!), and let me tell you…  It was so hot outside!  Naturally, my sister and I were dying (that’s not dramatic at all…), and as we were sweating our “faces” off we began talking about how we wish there were better waterproof makeup options available.  After a short conversation about it, we started talking about something else and seemingly forgot all about it.  But, on Sunday night when she and Peter were over at my house the topic came up again and we decided to do some digging to find out if there was something that we were missing.  After just a few short minutes of browsing our results on Google, we came across tarte cosmetics who, according to the abundance of customer reviews, seemed to have an amazing waterproof line!

tarte has the best waterproof makeup I’ve ever found!

After we found tarte’s waterproof makeup line, we decided we just had to try it for ourselves.  We saw that tarte is sold at Ulta stores, so we headed to the Ulta near my house and, although we both splurged a little more than we probably should have, it was well worth it because this stuff is amazing!

For those of you in the DC area, you know that we have had some unbearably hot weather this summer which, although I have complained about, has given me the perfect opportunity to really put my tarte products to the test and what do you know, every time I wear any of their products my face looks just as great when I get home at 7:30pm after the heat, humidity, and a terrible thunderstorm, as it does when I leave at 7:30am.  While I do not use only tarte products, because unfortunately I cannot afford to simply replace my entire inventory of makeup, I did get quite a few of the things that I have come to consider “essentials” in my daily routine, including:

  • tarte waterproof mascara (lights, camera, splashes waterproof mascara),
  • tarte waterproof eye primer (clean slate 360º creaseless 12-hr smoothing eye primer),
  • tarte waterproof eyeliner (skinny smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner), and
  • tarte waterproof concealer (Amazonian clay waterproof 12-hour concealer).

Let me tell you ladies that was the best waterproof mascara and the best waterproof concealer I have ever used!  I have never used waterproof primer or eyeliner, so I can’t really speak to that, but they were both amazing as well!  If you are looking for a new line of waterproof makeup to try out, tarte cosmetics is definitely my recommendation!

Plus, with (what I’m sure is) an equally amazing line of non-waterproof makeup, as well as a full skincare line, tarte really has everything you could possibly need when it comes to your face!  Add in the fact that it is all natural and free of all the parabens and toxins regularly found in many makeup products and you really can’t go wrong; personally, I cannot wait to try out more products from the company, especially the tarteguard 30  sunscreen lotion that reviewers have been raving about all over the Internet!

If you’re looking for a new brand to try out for any of your skincare needs, take a few minutes and check out tarte, I promise you will not be sorry you did and they will not let you down!

So ladies, what do you think?  Are you super excited to head to Ulta or Sephora and pick some up?  Have you already discovered and tried tarte?  Do you have a line of waterproof products that you absolutely love? Let me know your thoughts, as I always love getting your feedback and hearing your secret tips and tricks!  I hope you have an amazing day, gorgeous!

Fix Me Up Friday: Four Game-Changing Ways To Incorporate Lemons Into Your Skincare Regimen

Fix Me Up Friday - Skincare Uses For Lemons

Recently, while browsing through Pinterest mindlessly as I do all to often, I came across a ton of different uses for lemon… For the face! I never realized how many ways lemons and lemon juice could be used, and I definitely didn’t realize how many different amazing things you could use them for in your daily skincare regimen! But, much to my surprise they happen to be one of the most amazing fruits for your skin, and the best part is, they’re probably a lot less expensive than the products you’re currently using! So, here is some of what I found during my Pinterest binge…

Fix ME Up Friday - Skincare Uses For Lemons

Blackhead Treatment

Who knew?! If you take a half of a lemon and put three or four drops of honey on top, then all you have to do is rub the lemon/honey mixture on your face (emphasizing your biggest problem areas), let it sit for five minutes, and rinse with cold water.  It is said to work immediately… This is something I am definitely going to have to try for myself. Blackheads are something that I always seem to be battling, and being one of my biggest pet peeves and annoyances as far as skincare, if this works like Pinterest claims it does, it will be a serious game changer!

Facial Hair Removal

Combine one tablespoon of honey, one-half of a tablespoon of ground oatmeal, and a few drops of lemon juice and what do you get?! A natural face mask that works to get rid of facial hair! All you have to do is follow these simple steps, and it is said to work like a charm!

  • Combine ingredients (listed above)
  • Apply the mixture to your entire face just like you would use a face mask.
  • Let the mask sit for about 15 minutes, and then rinse your face with water.

It sounds super easy and all you have to do is repeat this remedy two to three times a week for three to four weeks, and allegedly it will help eliminate facial hair! How amazing would that be?! I am not sure if your facial hair will come back or not after the treatment is complete, however this is definitely something I would be willing to try (especially if it is gone for  good!).

Brightening Toner

By combining lemon juice, water, and witch hazel (which you can buy at pretty much any local drugstore) in a plastic bottle, you come out with an amazing toner that will brighten your skin and even reduce the size of your pores! Does that sound amazing or what?! Do you struggle with oily skin and fear that this may not get the job done for your tricky skin? No need to worry, just add two tablespoons of alcohol and you should be good to go!

Like I said before, I found this remedy on Pinterest (full recipe can be found here!), but it was originally posted on Shwin & Shwin (this was the first time I ever read their blog, but let me tell you… It is amazing! They have so many different natural, DIY skincare remedies and so much more… you should definitely check them out if you have not yet done so, I highly recommend it!). If you are interested in learning more about this DIY product or want the full recipe to make your own, you can get all the deets on their blog here. This is definitely something I am going to be making this weekend… They raved about how well it worked and I figure it’s worth a try.

Anti-Aging

By mixing Lemon Juice, Green Tea, and Turmeric Powder together your end result will be an amazing face-mask that is the answer to all of your anti-aging troubles (get the full recipe here!). The lemon works to boost collagen production and boosts the elasticity of the skin and cleanse deep into pores (among so many other amazing things!), the antioxidants in the green tea fills your skin with so many vitamins and minerals which help fight fine lines and wrinkles, treat acne, is a UV protectant, and is even said to help fight skin cancer! And last but not least, the turmeric powder helps fight irritation and inflammation, it also has medicinal properties that help fight acne and eczema, and finally it helps fight and reverse skin spots, acne scars, and freckles. Does that sound amazing or what!? Well, the website that I found this recipe on is equally amazing… They have all the uses and properties of all three items listed in depth (check it out!) as well as the full recipe for the mask and so much more throughout their site… I highly recommend checking it out for yourself, you won’t be sorry you did!

There you have it ladies and gents… Lemon is an amazing fruit and provides so many great benefits for the skin! Who knew? Well, maybe a lot of you did, but due to a little ignorance on my part, this was all new to me and I was taken by surprise! But let me tell you, it was quite an amazing surprise to learn how much something as simple as lemon can do for my face. I am definitely going to be trying all of these ASAP, so I will let you know how my experiments go!

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and if you don’t have big plans tonight (or at any point this weekend or in the near future), try out one of these recipes and let me know how it goes! I would love to hear from you beauties. Or, if you have already tried one of these (and loved or hated it), let me know that also. I love hearing from y’all so please, don’t be shy!

Fix Me Up Friday: Ten Make-Up Habits That Make Us Look Older

Oprah‘s 10 Tricks That Add 10 Years

Good morning beautiful! So naturally, in an attempt to avoid as much schoolwork as possible… I was searching Pinterest earlier this week when I came across a really interesting pin that lead me to an even better article! Being the mascara junkie that I am, the picture that drew me in was mascara.

Pinterest Picture That Drew Me In To Reading Oprah's Artile

Actually, it was this one to be exact!

But then, once I read just the little blurb below the picture (“Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older Than You Are”), I was hooked! It was super interesting to read all about these mistakes that I’m sure many of us are guilty of. I know I was shocked as I read (and a little upset!) because I commit many of these on a regular basis… Do I really look 32?! Am I really aging myself that much?! Well these are the questions I couldn’t stop myself from thinking on and on about. But, I am going to share the ten mistakes that Oprah thinks we are all making, and if you want more deets about them, you can read the full article here (I highly recommend it, ladies!)

#10: Choosing A Too-Dark Eyebrow Pencil

#9: Applying Lipstick Straight From The Tube

#8: Skipping Blush

#7: Using Liner And Mascara On Your Lower Lashes

#6: Going Overboard With Lip Liner

#5: Wearing Black Eyeliner

#4: Finishing With Powder

#3: Wearing Deep, Dark, Lip Colors

#2: Over-Concealing Your Under-Eye Circles

#1: Using Too Much Foundation

Did that hit a little close to home or what…? I know it most certainly did for me! But, if you haven’t read the article on Oprah’s website, you really should check it out! I’m telling you girls, it is super informational… I really learned a lot about my face and skin in general, in addition to the aging process overall! It is truly something every girl should read.

So, make sure you think twice before applying that fierce black eye-liner or rocking that chic red lipstick this weekend… According to Oprah you could be adding up to ten years!

Fix Me Up Friday: The Perfect Smokey Eye

Happy Friday gorgeous! I hope you are having a great day so far and you’re as excited for the weekend as I am! With graduation quickly approaching, everyday is more of a struggle that the last one… Talk about senioritis/no motivation! Woah!

But anyway… enough about me! So, this Friday’s Fix Me Up Friday (FMUF) is all about perfecting the smokey eye look.  I am a huge advocate for the smoky eye, but I also am a firm believer that you need to know how to do it in the right way or it’s a disaster! Since I am not the best at doing my make-up (or anyone else’s for that matter…), I am always afraid to try and rock this look because I am nervous that it will look awful! However, I recently came across an awesome little tutorial on Pinterest (follow me on Pinterest here!) for smokey eyes, so I figured I would share it with you all in addition to try it myself! So, here the amazing step-by-step guide on how to perfect the smokey eye!

Fix Me Up Friday - Step-By-Step Smoky Eye Guide

Is that not great or what?! However, the next issue I realized I had was figuring out what brand/colors of eye shadow to use. But then I realized I already had something I could try… For my 21st birthday my family and I went to Las Vegas.  While I was there I obviously wanted to look my best and try something new with my eyes for my actual birthday, so naturally I wanted to do a smokey eye.  My sister is amazing at doing both her make-up and other peoples and has a great combination of colors from MAC that she uses for her own smokey eye look.  The only problem was that she left them at home… So, there was a Victoria’s Secret in our hotel and while we were in there just doing some random shopping, I came across a smokey eye shadow palette! Perfect! So, having only used that once (when my sister did it for me…) I figured I can give that a try and make sure I am able to do the smokey eye on myself before I get any new make-up! Plus, I was surprised to find that their eye shadow was really nice (I don’t know why, because I have always heard good things about the VS make-up line).

Victoria's Secret Eyeshadow Quad - Smokey Eye

This is the one I have! Get yours here!

I will be sure to let you know how this adventure works out, and I am determined to keep trying until I get it down… While that may take awhile, I’ll certainly let you know how my first attempt goes this weekend!

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and a great weekend! Try something new and fresh with your make-up this weekend like I am… You never know, you could really like it! Do you have a favorite look with your eye make-up? Do you love the smokey eye or do you struggle like I do? Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions on coming posts or tips on how to improve my beautifying skills!

Introducing… Our First Ever Fix Me Up Friday!

Do You Know The Shelf Life Of All Of Your Fav. Make-Up Products? Let’s Talk About It…

Good morning and happy Friday lovelies! I hope you are all as excited about our new theme for Fridays, because I have some awesome posts coming your way in the coming weeks! For our first ever Fix Me Up Friday, we need to address a very important issue… The shelf life of make-up products.  Do you ever throw away unused make-up? No, of course not, right? Well actually, wrong! I know, I know, this sounds absolutely crazy especially given the amount of money we spend on such products. Not only are these products no longer going to be as effective and work as well, but, it can actually be harmful to your face and skin if you are using these products for too long after they should have been tossed!

The eye area is the most sensitive and also the easiest to become infected with using make-up that is old and “contaminated”.  Infections such as styes and conjunctivitis are just two of the possible effects that can be produced from old products.  Second to the eyes, is your skin.  The skin on your face is extremely soft and sensitive, and therefore should only be treated with the best products.  Using foundation, concealer, BB cream, and powder that is past it’s recommended shelf life can cause infections on the skin including impetigo, and not to mention breakouts with painful pimples, blemishes, and blackheads.  Ew, now who wants those, right?! Well the good news is, by sticking to these easy to follow guidelines, you can avoid all of these nasty side effects of nasty, old make-up!

Fix Me Up Friday - Make-Up Shelf Life

Fix Me Up Friday - Make-Up Shelf Life

I know some of these time frames may seem a little short, and you’re probably thinking that it takes you a lot longer than six months to go through your entire pot of eye-liner, but I’m telling you ladies, it is really important to follow these guidelines… One day you may thank me! However, if you’re anything like me and you’re on a bit of a [tight] budget, throwing away your perfectly good, outrageously expensive make-up products may seem like the craziest idea you’ve heard since the weather channel forecasted more snow for next week (yup, I’m not kidding… Next Tuesday is calling for more darn snow!), so there are some ways to extend the life of your products a little.  One way is to store your make-up in a cool, dry place (like the refrigerator!).  Because most of your products (mascara, liquid eye-liner and foundation, etc.) are either water or oil based, they tend to draw in a lot of bacteria which then multiplies.  But, if it is being store in a cold and dry place, it is harder for these bacteria to fester and grow.  Another way to extend the life of your mascara is to avoid “pumping” the brush in and out before using it.  I can promise you that you’re not getting any more mascara on that brush than it would have had before, but what you are doing is adding more air into the bottle, which causes bacteria to get in and also encourages the growth of mold and other nasty things we don’t want anywhere near our eyes!

In no world am I trying to scare you though, ladies! To be completely honest, when I was doing my research on these shelf-lives and the harmful effects that can occur when you don’t follow these guidelines, I considered never wearing make-up again (for about 2.5 seconds, but then I thought I would do the human race a favor, and continue on with the application of my face everyday… Don’t want to scare the children now, do I!?). All of these serious conditions that can be caused by such a simple thing as covering up a nasty pimple or putting on a simple coat of mascara (to, as my roommate [Kasey] would say, let the world know she is a human and has eye lashes) are really scary and I would never have thought of such a thing had I not come across about 1,937 pictures on Pinterest (follow me by clicking here!) and decided to look into these so called “shelf-lives”.  It was only then that I came across a ton of extremely useful information about the dangers I have been exposed to since I started wearing make-up.  So, do yourself a favor, on your way home tonight, stop at Sephora (or at the mall) and pick up a replacement mascara and everything you may have had in your make-up bag since 7th grade, and toss the old ones! Even if they aren’t gone, if they are that old (or anywhere close to it!) it is time to pitch it and treat yourself to a fresh one.

I hope y’all enjoyed our first Fix Me Up Friday, and hopefully you learned a little something! Do you have an idea for next week’s post (or an upcoming week… I have a few ideas myself, also!)? Don’t keep it in, either leave a comment or email me at kristen.booth06 [at] gmail [dot] com with any ideas, suggestions, comments, or concerns you have about this post or any of the others! I love hearing from you all, so please don’t be shy!

I hope you all have a fabulous Friday evening (and night!) and a wonderful weekend! It is going to be absolutely beautiful, so get outside and do something fun!
