Fix Me Up Friday: Four Game-Changing Ways To Incorporate Lemons Into Your Skincare Regimen

Fix Me Up Friday - Skincare Uses For Lemons

Recently, while browsing through Pinterest mindlessly as I do all to often, I came across a ton of different uses for lemon… For the face! I never realized how many ways lemons and lemon juice could be used, and I definitely didn’t realize how many different amazing things you could use them for in your daily skincare regimen! But, much to my surprise they happen to be one of the most amazing fruits for your skin, and the best part is, they’re probably a lot less expensive than the products you’re currently using! So, here is some of what I found during my Pinterest binge…

Fix ME Up Friday - Skincare Uses For Lemons

Blackhead Treatment

Who knew?! If you take a half of a lemon and put three or four drops of honey on top, then all you have to do is rub the lemon/honey mixture on your face (emphasizing your biggest problem areas), let it sit for five minutes, and rinse with cold water.  It is said to work immediately… This is something I am definitely going to have to try for myself. Blackheads are something that I always seem to be battling, and being one of my biggest pet peeves and annoyances as far as skincare, if this works like Pinterest claims it does, it will be a serious game changer!

Facial Hair Removal

Combine one tablespoon of honey, one-half of a tablespoon of ground oatmeal, and a few drops of lemon juice and what do you get?! A natural face mask that works to get rid of facial hair! All you have to do is follow these simple steps, and it is said to work like a charm!

  • Combine ingredients (listed above)
  • Apply the mixture to your entire face just like you would use a face mask.
  • Let the mask sit for about 15 minutes, and then rinse your face with water.

It sounds super easy and all you have to do is repeat this remedy two to three times a week for three to four weeks, and allegedly it will help eliminate facial hair! How amazing would that be?! I am not sure if your facial hair will come back or not after the treatment is complete, however this is definitely something I would be willing to try (especially if it is gone for  good!).

Brightening Toner

By combining lemon juice, water, and witch hazel (which you can buy at pretty much any local drugstore) in a plastic bottle, you come out with an amazing toner that will brighten your skin and even reduce the size of your pores! Does that sound amazing or what?! Do you struggle with oily skin and fear that this may not get the job done for your tricky skin? No need to worry, just add two tablespoons of alcohol and you should be good to go!

Like I said before, I found this remedy on Pinterest (full recipe can be found here!), but it was originally posted on Shwin & Shwin (this was the first time I ever read their blog, but let me tell you… It is amazing! They have so many different natural, DIY skincare remedies and so much more… you should definitely check them out if you have not yet done so, I highly recommend it!). If you are interested in learning more about this DIY product or want the full recipe to make your own, you can get all the deets on their blog here. This is definitely something I am going to be making this weekend… They raved about how well it worked and I figure it’s worth a try.

By mixing Lemon Juice, Green Tea, and Turmeric Powder together your end result will be an amazing face-mask that is the answer to all of your anti-aging troubles (get the full recipe here!). The lemon works to boost collagen production and boosts the elasticity of the skin and cleanse deep into pores (among so many other amazing things!), the antioxidants in the green tea fills your skin with so many vitamins and minerals which help fight fine lines and wrinkles, treat acne, is a UV protectant, and is even said to help fight skin cancer! And last but not least, the turmeric powder helps fight irritation and inflammation, it also has medicinal properties that help fight acne and eczema, and finally it helps fight and reverse skin spots, acne scars, and freckles. Does that sound amazing or what!? Well, the website that I found this recipe on is equally amazing… They have all the uses and properties of all three items listed in depth (check it out!) as well as the full recipe for the mask and so much more throughout their site… I highly recommend checking it out for yourself, you won’t be sorry you did!

There you have it ladies and gents… Lemon is an amazing fruit and provides so many great benefits for the skin! Who knew? Well, maybe a lot of you did, but due to a little ignorance on my part, this was all new to me and I was taken by surprise! But let me tell you, it was quite an amazing surprise to learn how much something as simple as lemon can do for my face. I am definitely going to be trying all of these ASAP, so I will let you know how my experiments go!

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and if you don’t have big plans tonight (or at any point this weekend or in the near future), try out one of these recipes and let me know how it goes! I would love to hear from you beauties. Or, if you have already tried one of these (and loved or hated it), let me know that also. I love hearing from y’all so please, don’t be shy!

Fix Me Up Friday: A Twist On Your Everyday Pony

I don’t know about you guys, but personally (when I have enough hair…) I tend to live with my hair pulled back in some way during the summertime.  In an attempt to add some sort of style to this unfortunate and boring ‘do, I am always searching for new, fun, and chic ways to add a little life to my dull old ponytail. Well, today I have an amazing one for you all that I cannot wait to try out in the coming months! It looks like it could potentially be a little tricky, but I think with a little practice and lots of patients (something I need to work on anyway!), it is definitely doable and maybe even easy!

Not Your Average Pony - Fix Me Up Friday

Is that not adorable or what?! I know I am personally so excited to get to try this one out and I definitely plan on practicing before I actually attempt to wear it out (I have a feeling my first few tries might not be very pretty…), but I will certainly keep y’all posted about how it goes and if it looks presentable maybe I’ll even share my results!

Fix Me Up Friday: Ten Make-Up Habits That Make Us Look Older

Oprah‘s 10 Tricks That Add 10 Years

Good morning beautiful! So naturally, in an attempt to avoid as much schoolwork as possible… I was searching Pinterest earlier this week when I came across a really interesting pin that lead me to an even better article! Being the mascara junkie that I am, the picture that drew me in was mascara.

Pinterest Picture That Drew Me In To Reading Oprah's Artile

Actually, it was this one to be exact!

But then, once I read just the little blurb below the picture (“Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older Than You Are”), I was hooked! It was super interesting to read all about these mistakes that I’m sure many of us are guilty of. I know I was shocked as I read (and a little upset!) because I commit many of these on a regular basis… Do I really look 32?! Am I really aging myself that much?! Well these are the questions I couldn’t stop myself from thinking on and on about. But, I am going to share the ten mistakes that Oprah thinks we are all making, and if you want more deets about them, you can read the full article here (I highly recommend it, ladies!)

#10: Choosing A Too-Dark Eyebrow Pencil

#9: Applying Lipstick Straight From The Tube

#8: Skipping Blush

#7: Using Liner And Mascara On Your Lower Lashes

#6: Going Overboard With Lip Liner

#5: Wearing Black Eyeliner

#4: Finishing With Powder

#3: Wearing Deep, Dark, Lip Colors

#2: Over-Concealing Your Under-Eye Circles

#1: Using Too Much Foundation

Did that hit a little close to home or what…? I know it most certainly did for me! But, if you haven’t read the article on Oprah’s website, you really should check it out! I’m telling you girls, it is super informational… I really learned a lot about my face and skin in general, in addition to the aging process overall! It is truly something every girl should read.

So, make sure you think twice before applying that fierce black eye-liner or rocking that chic red lipstick this weekend… According to Oprah you could be adding up to ten years!

Fix Me Up Friday: The Perfect Smokey Eye

Happy Friday gorgeous! I hope you are having a great day so far and you’re as excited for the weekend as I am! With graduation quickly approaching, everyday is more of a struggle that the last one… Talk about senioritis/no motivation! Woah!

But anyway… enough about me! So, this Friday’s Fix Me Up Friday (FMUF) is all about perfecting the smokey eye look.  I am a huge advocate for the smoky eye, but I also am a firm believer that you need to know how to do it in the right way or it’s a disaster! Since I am not the best at doing my make-up (or anyone else’s for that matter…), I am always afraid to try and rock this look because I am nervous that it will look awful! However, I recently came across an awesome little tutorial on Pinterest (follow me on Pinterest here!) for smokey eyes, so I figured I would share it with you all in addition to try it myself! So, here the amazing step-by-step guide on how to perfect the smokey eye!

Fix Me Up Friday - Step-By-Step Smoky Eye Guide

Is that not great or what?! However, the next issue I realized I had was figuring out what brand/colors of eye shadow to use. But then I realized I already had something I could try… For my 21st birthday my family and I went to Las Vegas.  While I was there I obviously wanted to look my best and try something new with my eyes for my actual birthday, so naturally I wanted to do a smokey eye.  My sister is amazing at doing both her make-up and other peoples and has a great combination of colors from MAC that she uses for her own smokey eye look.  The only problem was that she left them at home… So, there was a Victoria’s Secret in our hotel and while we were in there just doing some random shopping, I came across a smokey eye shadow palette! Perfect! So, having only used that once (when my sister did it for me…) I figured I can give that a try and make sure I am able to do the smokey eye on myself before I get any new make-up! Plus, I was surprised to find that their eye shadow was really nice (I don’t know why, because I have always heard good things about the VS make-up line).

Victoria's Secret Eyeshadow Quad - Smokey Eye

This is the one I have! Get yours here!

I will be sure to let you know how this adventure works out, and I am determined to keep trying until I get it down… While that may take awhile, I’ll certainly let you know how my first attempt goes this weekend!

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and a great weekend! Try something new and fresh with your make-up this weekend like I am… You never know, you could really like it! Do you have a favorite look with your eye make-up? Do you love the smokey eye or do you struggle like I do? Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions on coming posts or tips on how to improve my beautifying skills!

The stunning Vivian of VivianStonexo

Hi Readers of Style by Kristen Blair!  I am Vivian and my blog is  I started my blog at beginning of summer this year and absolutely love it! I have a mixture of things on my blog including beauty, fashion, lifestyle, etc. I am 21 years old and live in California. I am a puppy mom to the best little guy! I love meeting and talking with new people! I want to thank Kristen so much for letting me do a guest post on her beautiful blog! I had such a fun time with these questions and I hope you all would check out my blog at – xo, Vivian Stone

And now for a translation of what that means…

1.      If you were on a tight budget and could only afford one of your favorite magazines (I know, I love them all too!), what would it be? What is your favorites section/part of that magazine?

  •  I can say hands down, no questions asked it would be Cosmopolitan magazine. I have collected the magazine since I was about 17 years old, so after accumulating issues for over four years I can say it’s my favorite. I love that they always do a Q&A section (similar to this 😉 Love it!!) With the fabulous women they have on the cover. I just love that it’s a magazine that is meant for more mature women 17+ where you can read about real life stories, beauties, and fashion!

2.      If I were a shoe, I would be…

  • I am currently obsessed with shoes that I cannot afford at the moment, I absolutely love Steve Madden shoes and these are the boots that I currently have my eye on!  I love country chic style, and these boots are so simple, yet so pretty.

3.      My fashion crush (idol, inspiration, admirer, the list could go on forever…) is…

  • Anyone that personally knows me would already know the answer to this question! Lauren Conrad, I have admired her since her Laguna Beach days. She has evolved so much over the years and now is huge in fashion. I think she is a great role model as well as my personal fashion crush!

4.      If I were stranded on an island and could only have two make-up products, they would be…

  • Like I said before, I have been obsession over things I really shouldn’t buy…that being said I have tried out the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, I am trying so hard not to buy; it is after all almost Christmas. Also Mascara, a good glow and some long beautiful lashes are my favorite! Benefit’s “They’re Real Mascara” has been a fave!

5.      I keep my skin looking fabulous and flawless by… (what are your go-to products?!)

  • I love taking care of my skin, I have been loving the simple brand toner. No stinging unlike a ton of other toners, and just moisturizing like crazy! In the winter my skin is beyond dry and I rediscovered my love for the Cetaphil daily moisturizer!

6.      I blog because… (Tell me when and why you started blogging, and then why you continued after you initially started!)

  • I started blogging because I was seeing all of these girls in the beauty community making new friends and had a hobby that they truly loved! I love talking to other girls interested in the same things that I am, as well as sharing cool tips, products, and life experiences with others. This has been so amazing so far, I have already made friends through blogging, YouTube, and twitter.

7.      If I could live anywhere in the world, I would choose…

  • I was born in California, and lived here until I moved to L.A and then Las Vegas for 5 years and now I am back in California! I loved living in Las Vegas the most, I spent my teenage years there and really did my growing up in that place. It’s a beautiful place to live and I would love to hopefully move back one day!

8.      When I grow up I want to be… (If you could be absolutely anything, what is your dream/ideal career!?)

  • Throughout my life I have changed my mind a million times about what I would love to be when I got older, and now that I am older and have to choose my career path I am still stuck! I plan on starting school in the fall to become a first grade teacher, I have been working with children since I was a young teenager. I most recently was an after school teacher for first grade and absolutely love teaching! I however still love blogging, and have always wanted to work for a major magazine, a girl can dream.

9.      My favorite designer is…

  • I have so many people that I think are geniuses in the fashion world; Marc Jacobs, Steve Madden, Rebeca Minkoff the list goes on, and on!

10.   My favorite quote is… Because… (What are your go-to words of wisdom from a fellow fashionista and why?)

  • Pinterest is something I love to go to when I need inspiring quotes, I have a whole board dedicated to awesome quotes! “I want my heart and my passions to be the most beautiful things about me” I love that quote because you should always do things in life with a good heart and great passion, and I feel like that will get someone so much further than doing things purely to make money and with a mean spirit.

11.   My rock is… (Who in your life inspires you and has helped you get where you are today?)

  • My mom has always been my ultimate rock, she has been my best friend since I was born. She is my inspiration and someone who has overcome a lot in life! I recently moved out this summer and even though we only live a few blocks away, not to mention we work together! I still have to go over pretty much nightly to visit with her! Since moving out I have had my amazing boyfriend to be my rock, I absolutely love living with my other best friend and he loves my mom just as much as I do.

12.   With the abundance of free time I have (don’t we all wish this was the case!), I like to…

  • I wish I had more free time because I love to read books, watch movies, take my puppy on walks, paint my nails, organize my house (I know I’m crazy), and of course go shopping!

OOTD: Wallet Friendly Friday

Happy Friday Everyone! The Weekend Is Almost Here!

Good morning! I can honestly say that I have not been so excited for Friday in a long time! This week was my midterms week, and let me tell you… it was NOT fun! But, it is finally over, the weekend is here, and I am ready to have some fun and catch up on relaxation and sleep! Today’s Outfit of the Day is a budget savvy ensemble (duh Kristen… it’s Friday!) that really is perfect for so many occasions! It is the perfect outfit for a day in the office or even for a dinner date or dinner party! No matter what your weekend may have in store, you can probably find something to wear this super awesome outfit for!

Outfit Of The Day - Wallet Friendly Friday

Top: H&M Chiffon Blouse –, $25

Skirt:  Monki Louise Skirt –, $47

Shoes:  Just Fab Iva Heels (Black) –, $55

Bag: H&M Handbag –, $20

Bracelets:  Juicy Couture Narrow Pyramid USB Bracelet –$38 $20

Abro Bracelet –, $35

Watch: Designer Enamel Black Bangle Watch –$72 $64

Earrings:  Kenneth Cole NY Hematite Tone Faceted Stone Drop Earrings –, $24

Nails:  OPI Lincoln Park After Dark –, $9

OPI Bubble Bath –, $9

Beauty Tip:

Whether you like your nails to make a statement or not, you should always have nail polish on them, ladies! Even if you do not like to draw attention to them, use a neutral, clean color like Bubble Bath made by OPI (or, if you’re an Essie fan, I also love Mademoiselle!) However, if you’re trying to make a statement with your nails, my all time favorite, and go-to fall color is Lincoln Park After Dark (also by OPI).

One of my biggest pet peeves is when women walk around with chipped nail polish.. its gross ladies, please do not do it! I am telling you, it really does say more about you than you would think!

Anyway, now that I have gotten my daily rant out of the way, with that being said I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and do a lot of fun (or, if you had a week like mine, relaxation).  Even if you are on a tight budget, you can do a little shopping and pick up something along these lines for Motivational Monday to look your best and start your week out on the right foot next week!

XOXO, Kristen
